The Republic of San Marino is marking the twentieth anniversary of its first trust law with a high-level conference entitled: “The Civil Law Trust and the Decisions of the Court for Trusts and Fiduciary Relationships. Reflections on the San Marino Experience Twenty Years After the First Law on the Subject.”

The event is promoted by the State Secretariat for Justice, Welfare and Family, in cooperation with the University of the Republic of San Marino, the San Marino Legal Institute, the Academy of Trusts, the Bar Association and Notaries of San Marino, the Association of Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts of San Marino, and IUYA – International Union of Young Accountants.

The conference took place on Monday, 17 March 2025, at 3:00 p.m., at the Sala Arengo of the Kursaal Congress Centre in San Marino. It will also serve as the official opening of the professional qualification and refresher course for trustees, organized by the University of San Marino in collaboration with the Academy of Trusts.

Since 2005, San Marino’s trust legislation—initially introduced with Law no. 37 of 17 March 2005 and later replaced by Law no. 42 of 1 March 2010—has undergone significant reforms. Today, it stands out for its ability to integrate with civil law systems while maintaining a flexible and innovative approach, fully meeting the needs of the modern market.

The study day was attended by authoritative institutional representatives, including State Secretaries Stefano Canti, Marco Gatti, and Teodoro Lonfernini, alongside leaders of San Marino’s main professional and academic institutions.

Speakers included Avv. Andrea Vicari, President of the Court for Trusts and Fiduciary Relationships, Professors Ferdinando Treggiari and Gianluca Contaldi, as well as experts such as Avv. Fabio Giovagnoli, Dr. Francesco Schurr, and Dr. Nicola Muccioli, who will focus on anti-money laundering regulations.
